When Chuck was bragging that his guitar was the same one that rudy sarzo uses, I was not impressed. I asked him “Who the heck is Rudy Sarzo?” OK, I really didn’t use the word “heck,” but in order to maintain the family-orientation of this blog I had to clean it up for this blog post. But, you get the idea. Chuck stared at me like I had three heads, and then shook his head slowly and rolled his eyes. I guess I really AM an old fart after all!
If you have a WordPress blog, you know how great their program is for blogging. The whole thing is free, largely due to the contributions of hundreds of volunteers. There are other free blog sites, but after looking at four of the others, WordPress is tops on my list. There is a new upgrade available for download and I decided to give it a go. The idea of me doing this type of technical work is a little scary, but I was feeling brave and decided to dive in and see what I could do with it. I made a backup of the blog and then clicked on the link on my dashboard to upgrade the WordPress software to their new 3.5.1 version. It was done in 44 seconds. One click and less than a minute later it was done! Unbelievable, but true! I’m totally impressed with WordPress and myself for doing this project together.
When I get the opportunity to talk with other bloggers, in person or online, it seems that WordPress is by far the most well known and trusted of the free blog sites, so that makes me feel so much better about my decision to use it and to continue to use it. I still have a lot to learn, things are always changing and new things keep popping up all the time.
When I started this blog a little over 3 years ago, I know almost nothing about web hosting and WordPress. I just knew that I wanted a nice blog on a decent server, a place with high reliability and good technical support if I needed help or had questions that I couldn’t figure out from the FAQs.
Over the years, I have been learning as I go and have been able to launch several web sites in addition to my blog. I can even help other people get started blogging and can help them find managed hosting and affordable web designers to make their web site as professional and attractive as possible.
Lately I have been reading about colocation for businesses that need higher security measures than on site servers. I’m even thinking about taking some college level courses so I can get a certification and work on more advanced networks as a consultant and perhaps an administrator.
Things sure have changed a lot in my lifetime! When I was a kid, there were very few opportunities to get the word out about your business. You could advertise on radio, television, mass mailings, and the paper publishing media such as newspapers and magazines. And of course, the most effective marketing possible back then was word of mouth marketing; your satisfied customers telling other people that they know that your business exists and exactly how happy they were with your product or service.
Well, word of mouth advertising was the most successful advertising strategy then, and it is the most successful advertising strategy now. In today’s advertising campaigns, blog marketing adds another dimension to word of mouth advertising.
Blogs were originally set up by people to share their thoughts with their friends and loved ones, and anyone else that might happen to share their interests. Bloggers have developed a social network that is so far reaching that it almost boggles the imagination. Marketing companies like Izea capitalize on that social network by finding bloggers that will promote their client’s products. They have several innovative programs designed to help advertisers promote their products through blog marketing strategies. Izea offers a lot of different strategies, including product sampling, blog sponsorships, and blog posts.
