Great minds think alike

Needing to go on a five hour trip, with my son driving, I wanted to take my laptop with me so I could take care of some typing work on the trip. Knowing that the battery on the laptop would not last five hours I asked my son to stop at a Staples on the way so I could pick up an inverter for the lighter. We did, in fact, stop at a Staples and buy one. It cost about $20 more than I expected it to, but at least I got what I needed.

Wouldn’t you know it I never even opened the box – my son and I talked so much on the trip that I only spent a very short time using the laptop. And the same on the trip home, except that I napped much of the time on the return trip. When I got home I found that my hubby had also gone to a store and bought an inverter for me to use on future trips! Wasn’t that sweet of him? The one that I bought at Staples cost more than the one he bought, and it had never been opened, so I went ahead and returned the one from Staples to my local Staples yesterday. They were very gracious about taking the return, which was awesome! I like my local Staples!

Finding work in today’s community

How do you go about looking for a job in this new day and age? Do you look for help wanteds in the newspaper? Do you go online and check out websites like Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com? Or do you just google a phrase like jobs in Fredericksburg? Perhaps you go to a brick and mortar employment agency. I’ve always been told that the best way to get a job is by “knowing someone” who can influence the hiring decisions of a company.

Perhaps that’s true, and perhaps that is why so many people nowadays are struggling so hard to find work. Our society has evolved into a society where we no longer look out for each other. There have been many articles written about this trend – some indicate that you can see it in the architecture of our houses – people no longer hang out on their front porches where they can see and socialize with people who are traveling down the sidewalk, no they have back-decks where they can party in solitude. What do you think about this trend, and do you think that is a good thing, or bad? Why? What do you think should be done about it?

Ouch

My hubby went to the dentist on Monday and had two teeth pulled. Poor guy was so miserable before, and is so miserable now. He is having so much trouble eating. That can be dangerous because he is a diabetic, and he needs to eat to keep his sugar count level. I keep offering to get him something to eat or drink, even soft stuff like pudding but he keeps declining. I worry about him.

Working Like Crazy

Content by Sol Rosales

I’ve been working about 60 hours a week for the last year, so that has been tough on me. When I’m not working I try to spend most of my time catching up with my husband, who also has a very busy schedule at work. Sometimes we both work so much it feels like we are just roommates who see each other in passing instead of spouses. Because both of us work so hard, a lot of our home life is disorganized and crazy. We have a hard time fitting in our friends and family, and forget about taking care of bills. Sometimes we discuss making adjustments at home, like changing wireless internet providers, but then we just forget and it never gets done. I’m grateful that we at least have a maid who comes in once every other week to pick up after us, because if it wasn’t for her our house would probably look like a science experiment gone bad. I really don’t think that we can go on like this for much longer. I hope work slows down soon so we can spend some time together and get organized.

Getting truck state inspection/getting ready for tax season

Got up early and took my DH’s truck into town to have it state inspected.  The garage opened at 7:00 am,  I got there at 7:05 am, and still had to wait an hour and a half before they could inspect it!  I tried a few days ago to make an appointment to have it inspected, but all of the garages that do the inspections say that they can’t do that – it is first come, first serve.  **Sigh**

Thankfully, their waiting room had a television in it, so I could watch the news while I waited, and there was a pleasant woman in the waiting room that I chatted with to pass the time.

Afterwards, went to Staples to pick up tax preparation software, I have found that I can save a lot of money by doing our taxes ourselves on the computer and filing online instead of paying someone else to do it.  Now I just have to wait for all of the forms to come in the mail from all the employers/banks etc so I can start to file them.  I’m sure we will get a refund this year.
